NOTE: This special library event has 3 Parts. Take in the whole shin-dig or drop by for any individual segment that you’d like to see. 5 minute intermissions will be between each segment.
PART 1:
Our own Borrego-location-fixer Fred Jee will kick Part 1 (2:00PM) off with excerpts and anecdotes from past Borrego movies. These classic and modern films all faced rural challenges —with some of the productions dating back over a century! The lessons learned by these (literal) trailblazers still come in handy today.
PART 2:
When Fred’s short multi-media presentation is a wrap, our jumping off point for Part 2 (2:35PM) will start with a question, “Should you consider making your next film in a small town?” Luckily, we’ll have a variety of filmmaker panelist on hand that did just that. And, if you’re a filmmaker that has direct insight from your own experience, join the conversation to share!
As a cinematic creative you not only need to be inspired by the location but have a realistic plan on how to get the shots. We’ll talk about the advantages and disadvantages of rural filming. Of particular focus during this discussion will be the small town solutions that keep film budgets to a minimum.
PART 3:
Following panel Q&A, Part 3 (3:10) is a very special library screening of our panelist’s work. These fascinating indy flicks were all shot in rural communities like Borrego Springs. Explore our cinematic backyard!
