5Q's w/: Nao Toyama "Almost 40" Writer

QUESTION#1: What excited you the most when making this film?: I've been working as a singer, and while creating my next song, I simultaneously developed a story, and the result was this movie. It's been an exciting journey every day. And to have it screened at a film festival... I'm so glad I didn't give up and kept going!

QUESTION#2: What was the most significant film you've seen AT THE THEATER in 2024, and how did it influence your filmmaking?: 「PERFECT DAYS」This work made me realize once again that happiness can be found in the everyday, seemingly insignificant moments. It made me sure that, no matter the circumstances, as long as you don't give up, you'll always be able to find it.

QUESTION#3: What's an obvious and not-so-obvious question someone might ask about your film?: Obvious question: "What is the theme of this movie?"
Not-so-obvious question: "Why did the woman in 'Aru Otoko' disappear?"

QUESTION#4: A magic movie genie is giving you an unlimited budget for your next production! However, you're only allowed to use it on either "above line" or "below line" resouces. Which do you choose and why?: Above the line: because I am nothing more than a singer, and it would be amazing to combine the talents of various creators with my own potential to create works. Furthermore, having the opportunity for many people to see them and share emotions with me is nothing but happiness.

QUESTION#5: What is it about your current movie that will influence your next film?: We filmed primarily in Osaka, Japan. In November 2024, we also opened a café called 'Episode.' Drawing inspiration from this café, I have started working on the plot for my next project. As long as we live, everyone is the protagonist of their own story, filled with various dramas. I want to continue creating works that warm the heart. If you ever visit Japan, we’ll always be waiting for you at 'Episode' in Osaka.
