5Q's w/: Glenn Maxwell "Audition" Director, Writer, Producer

QUESTION#1: What excited you the most when making this film?: I had always wanted to try and make a comedy, all of my other shorts had been dramas because I always felt trying to make something funny had always been a very daunting challenge. I think what made me the most excited was the story, which is based off of an actual incident at a building I used to work at. Once I had the idea, everything else came very organically.

QUESTION#2: What was the most significant film you've seen AT THE THEATER in 2024, and how did it influence your filmmaking?: Late Night with the Devil was the most significant film I had seen in theaters in 2024. I had not been moved by a theatrical experience that much since I was a kid. The way the story was told, the cinematography, and the attention to detail all floored me. I can't recommend it enough!

QUESTION#3: What's an obvious and not-so-obvious question someone might ask about your film?: An obvious question I think would be asked is "What camera did you shoot on?" (The answer is the Arri Alexa 35 with a 25-250 Angenieux HR zoom lens) and a not-so-obvious question would be "How long did this take to shoot?" (The answer is a little over three hours with only five people total).

QUESTION#4: A magic movie genie is giving you an unlimited budget for your next production! However, you're only allowed to use it on either "above line" or "below line" resouces. Which do you choose and why?: Below the line, easily. You can have the most creative people in the room but you wouldn't be able to film anything if you didn't have an army of talented people turning their vision to life!

QUESTION#5: What is it about your current movie that will influence your next film?: Audition taught me to trust my instincts as a storyteller and to just enjoy the process, this was the first project that I feel I captured exactly what I had in my head. It's is a very exciting feeling seeing what I imagined come to life on the silver screen. I hope to be able to tap into that again on my future projects!
